Phuket Diving in Low (Wet) Season
Our main diving season here is from late October to early May, because our main dive destination – the Similan Islands National Park – is closed from May 15th to October 15th. That is the most popular area for liveaboards, easily reached from Phuket or Khao Lak. Once the high season ends things are quieter, especially in Khao Lak, but from Phuket we are lucky to have a number of dive sites that can be dived year round. If you are planning a trip to Phuket in June, July, August or September, here’s some diving options for you. The weather can sometimes be wet and windy, sometimes just wet, but with calm seas, and much of the time the weather in the “wet season” is sunny, but with brief heavy showers. On average the weather is better from November to April, but low season has plenty of diving available.
Phuket Rainy Season Diving
Day trip diving from Phuket to all local dive sites and Phi Phi continues year round. There are no day trip options in low season to the Similan islands. Of course the weather is not always perfect and the sea can be a little bouncy, but many days are as good as high season. There are day trips to Racha Noi and Racha Yai islands to the south of Phuket, plus Phi Phi, the King Cruiser Wreck and Shark Point to the east of Phuket. Follow the links below for information about these day trips …
PADI Dive Courses
We also teach dive courses year round starting from beginners day trip experiences up to Advanced and Rescue Diver courses. If you never dived before you can choose from a 1 day Discover Scuba, or you can go all the way with a 3 day Open Water Diver course. If you are already certified, the Advanced Open Water course takes just 2 days. Or you might need a refresher if you have not dived for a while. More course information …
Liveaboards
Although the Similan Islands are closed in the wet season, there are a few short liveaboard options from Phuket. The The Junk liveaboard runs 3 day / 2 night trips to Phi Phi and the Racha Islands. If you want a longer liveaboard .. well, you might consider a change of destination – the best liveaboards in the summer months are to be found in Komodo, Indonesia.
